A strong AFT score depends on your goals, unit, and MOS, but scores above 450 are generally competitive, and scores 485+ represent elite performance. The most important goal is passing every event while steadily improving your weakest areas.
To pass the Army Fitness Test, soldiers must meet the minimum standard for every event. Failing one event means failing the overall test, even if the total score is otherwise high.
The AFT includes five events: Maximum Deadlift, Hand-Release Push-Up, Sprint-Drag-Carry, Plank, and the 2-Mile Run.
Most soldiers improve fastest with 4-6 training days per week using a mix of strength work, muscular endurance, sprint conditioning, and aerobic running. Training should focus on weaknesses without neglecting the other events.
The fastest improvements usually come from targeted event-specific training, consistent running, better pacing, improved movement standards, and structured strength progression.
